Lightweight Container Chassis
Reduced-tare chassis carrying up to 31,400kg on heavy 40ft and 45ft containers.

Every kilo of trailer is a kilo of cargo you cannot carry. Our ultra-lightweight 40ft container chassis reduces tare weight so more of the gross vehicle limit is available for payload, letting us move 40ft and 45ft containers up to 31,400kg — well above what many standard skeletals can take.
For dense cargo — tiles, drinks, stone, machinery, paper — this is frequently the difference between one vehicle and two.
The payload arithmetic
UK articulated combinations are limited by gross train weight. That total is fixed, so the only way to carry more cargo is to weigh less before the cargo goes on. A lighter chassis shifts that balance directly in your favour, and at up to 31,400kg it usually settles the question outright.
If you have been splitting heavy containers across two vehicles, or paying a de-stuff and re-load at the port to get under weight, it is worth sending us the figures. The saving is often larger than the rate difference.
What a heavy container usually costs you
A container that will not go on a standard trailer normally leaves two options: part-unload some of the cargo before it travels, or pay for a second delivery to carry the rest. Both cost money — part-unloading needs labour, space and careful handling, and a second delivery is a second haulage charge and more time waiting.
Our lightweight chassis is built to avoid both. The whole container moves in a single trip, which keeps the cost down and the schedule intact.
45ft capability
45ft containers are increasingly common on European traffic and awkward for hauliers running fixed 40ft equipment. Our lightweight chassis handles them, so a 45ft does not need a different supplier.
Common questions
- How much extra payload does a lightweight chassis give?
- Our lightweight chassis carries containers up to 31,400kg — well above what many standard skeletals can take. Send us the gross weight and we will confirm it goes on one vehicle before you book.
- Can you carry 45ft containers?
- Yes. Our lightweight chassis carries both 40ft and 45ft containers, up to 31,400kg.
- Is a lightweight chassis more expensive?
- It is specialist equipment, but when it saves a second vehicle on a heavy load it is substantially cheaper overall. We will tell you honestly which option works out better for your consignment.
