Refrigerated Container Transport

Reefer containers up to 29,560kg kept powered in transit on Genmark underslung genset trailers.

The Genmark generator slung beneath the chassis rails of a blue reefer skeletal trailer, sitting inside the vehicle's own envelope.

A refrigerated container has to stay powered from the moment it leaves the quay until it is plugged in at destination. Even a short break in the cold chain can ruin a whole load, so the trailer carrying it has to be built for the job, not adapted for it.

Our Genmark underslung genset trailers carry the generator beneath the chassis rather than clipped to the container's front wall, keeping the reefer running throughout the journey. We carry 20ft, 40ft and 45ft reefers up to 29,560kg, so a single haulier covers the range rather than sub-contracting part of it out.

Why underslung rather than clip-on

Many hauliers rely on a separate clip-on genset to power a reefer, which is extra equipment, extra cost, and one more thing that has to arrive on site with the load. Because our generator is built into the trailer, that expense and that logistics problem both disappear without any drop in temperature control.

An underslung genset also sits within the vehicle's existing envelope rather than hanging off the container's front wall. That keeps overall length within limits, protects the unit from damage, and avoids the height problems a clip-on can cause on restricted routes — and it means the reefer arrives ready to be plugged straight into site power, with no separate genset return leg to arrange.

Temperature integrity

Set point is confirmed at collection and the unit is monitored through the journey. If a reefer alarms in transit, our operations team is contactable at any hour — a cold chain problem discovered at 2am is only a problem if nobody answers the phone.

For claims and audit purposes, temperature data recorded by the container's own controller remains the definitive record; we work to the set point you specify on the booking.

One fleet for the whole cold chain

The genset trailers sit alongside the rest of our specialist equipment — lightweight chassis, sideloader, extended twistlock and the low loader — so a reefer movement that also needs an overweight chassis or an awkward drop is still one phone call rather than a second supplier.

We operate from Felixstowe, London Gateway, Tilbury and Southampton. Being based close to the east coast ports matters more for reefer freight than for a standard box: the faster we collect a released container, the less of the cold chain is spent waiting at the terminal.

Common questions

Can you keep the container running during transit?
Yes. Our underslung genset trailers power the reefer for the whole journey, from port collection through to delivery.
What container sizes and weights can you carry as reefers?
20ft, 40ft and 45ft refrigerated containers on underslung genset trailers, up to 29,560kg.
What if the reefer alarms in transit?
Our operations team is contactable 24/7. The driver reports immediately and we contact you before the temperature excursion becomes a rejected load.
Is an underslung genset more expensive than a clip-on unit?
No — it works the other way round. A clip-on genset is separate hired equipment on top of the haulage rate. Ours is built into the trailer, which removes that extra cost without any drop in temperature control.
